Now used by thousands of teachers across the country! Top 10 UK Educational app!

The 'Guided Reading Questioning Framework' (Narrative Texts) is Alan Peat Ltd's first reading app. It has been designed to help busy teachers to structure their text-based questioning in ten key areas: knowledge, prediction, comprehension, application, analysis, speculation, empathic response, synthesis, evaluation and elaboration.
Each 'area' is treated as a questioning outcome and is comprised of a series of questions - these are framed in a lower order, middle order and higher order manner. As such the content of the app represents a differentiated (critical thinking) developmental continuum of questions.
The app is easy to use and will help to avoid ad hoc and/or repetitive questioning in guided reading sessions. Each 'area' includes a note-taking section. Notes are saved 'in app' but can also be backed-up using Dropbox. Further questions designed by staff and/or clusters of schools can therefore be added, making this an ever-expanding resource.
A 'must-have' app for all schools and the first in a series of apps to support the development of reading in schools.

A Second App of Exciting Sentences
A Second App of Exciting Sentences

GBP : £1.99

Alan Peat’s original sentence types are already used in schools in 22 different countries around the world. In 2013, in collaboration with Mathew Sullivan, 30 brand new sentence types were introduced. Now, these sentences are available as an app, which also includes direct links to both fiction and non-fiction writing, as well as teaching ideas, extension activities, and example sentences from teachers and pupils around the U.K.

‘A Second App of Exciting Sentences’ provides teachers and parents with 30 ‘consistent language’ sentence types, clearly explained and easily accessible on iPhone or iPad.

The app includes an introduction to, and an explanation of, the sentence types as a whole-school approach, both from the standpoint of an international literacy consultant, and of a full-time primary teacher.

Each sentence type is then introduced via a range of genre-specific examples, which could also be used in class. Coverage continues with an explanation of the grammatical features of each sentence, where and when they might be used, and how teachers might introduce them to pupils in the classroom. Teaching tips and genre links are provided for each sentence type, and ideas for extension work are also included.

Finally, the app allows users to make and save their own personal notes/lesson plans directly in-app. You can also back them up to Dropbox and email them directly from the app: two handy tools for networks of schools seeking to share ideas and planning!...
A Critical Thinking Framework for Guided Reading (Fiction and Non-Fiction)
A Critical Thinking Framework for Guided Reading (Fiction and Non-Fiction)

GBP : £1.99

‘A Critical Thinking Questioning Framework for Guided Reading' (Fiction and Non-fiction) is the second in a series of reading apps from Alan Peat Ltd. Written by Bryn Goodman, this is the follow up to Alan Peat’s hugely popular ‘Guided Reading Questioning Framework’

It has been designed to help busy teachers to structure their text-based questioning in ten key areas:
Explanation of a Character’s Motives
Textual Anatomy
Recasting
Sequencing
Inference
Deduction
Purpose of The Text
Authorial Technique
Comparing Texts
Extracting Information

Where applicable each area includes a continuum of both fiction and non-fiction questions divided into six key sections: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation. These can be used to develop or reinforce children’s skills through critical thinking.

The areas covered in the app have been identified through analysis of UK Key Stage 2 SATs papers from 2004-2015. Regardless of tests, these skills are fundamental to children’s comprehension of texts and will help them to develop the critical thinking skills they will need as they progress.
